Aera employees create Thanksgiving food boxes for Gleaners PDF Print E-mail

By BETTE HORN, Contributing writer  | Tuesday, Nov 24 2009- The Bakersfield Californian

On Monday, when the Golden Empire Gleaners truck pulled up to the headquarters of Aera Energy LLC to load boxes of Thanksgiving dinners to deliver to needy families, they saw much more than they expected.

Aera's Ming Avenue employee cafeteria was brimming with more than 100 food boxes adorned with fall leaves, crepe paper pigs and about every variety of crafted turkey known to man. It's that special touch of warmth that goes onto the truck with each box that sets this food drive apart from the rest.

This annual event, sponsored by Team Aera, the company's employee volunteer organization, supplies an average of more than 100 family Thanksgiving tables -- in style! The effort engages hundreds of employees and family members, and even reaches out to one of Aera's partner schools, South High School - Math and Science Academy. For the last two years, the academy students have had a ball, volunteering to help by decorating some of the boxes that go to needy recipients.

Aera Energy LLC is a California oil and gas producer. Company headquarters are in Bakersfield and most of its production is centered in the San Joaquin Valley. Aera also has oilfield operations in the LA Basin and in the Ventura and Monterey counties.
